Chock-A-Block in Chingford? Why move out when you can move up?

As David Beckham could tell you, Chingford is a great place to grow up, especially if you’re an outdoor type: it’s a wonderfully green area with some great open spaces, just a stone’s throw from Epping Forest, the ultimate kid’s adventure playground.

It has a comfortable community feel – more of a village than a London suburb – and yet it’s in  prime commuter territory, less than 30 minutes by rail to the City from Chingford and Highams Park railway stations: a journey that’s been much improved since the London Overground service has been upgraded.  There’s a TFL line direct to Liverpool Street.

To live here is to love it.  The only drawback for established residents with growing families is finding the wherewithal for the next step up the property ladder.  Typical property prices at the time of writing are £200,000 for a one bed property; £275,000 for a two bed; £400,000 for a three bed; and over £500,000 for a four bed.

So for a couple expecting a new addition to their family, that would mean finding an additional £75,000 to upgrade from a one to a two bed home, or an extra £125,000 to move from a two to a three bed property.  Or, of course, moving out to a more remote area where property prices are cheaper, but amenities are sparser.

But then why move out when you can move up – literally – with a relatively inexpensive loft conversion?  Something you can do at a fraction of the cost of relocating – and with nothing like the upheaval and heartache.
