A guest bedroom you’ll want to make your own!

Many executive homes come with an en suite to the master bedroom, a luxury extra for which you can expect to pay a premium. But for those who want the benefit of such a civilised facility without relocating or taking out a second mortgage, there is a practical and cost effective alternative: a loft conversion.

Of the 60% of UK properties that have a loft, only 2% have been converted, which given that most of the former are dusty furniture repositories filled with forgotten trunks and packing cases, is a missed opportunity to say the least.

Most loft spaces have large floor plates – usually the same as the building’s footprint – which means they can be easily be converted into open plan living space, making them potentially the largest and most luxurious room in the house: effectively a self-contained apartment.

The obvious use to which to put it (and the most popular choice amongst our loft conversion customers) is a guest bedroom for visiting family and friends which, with the addition of an en suite shower, basin and toilet, puts it on a par with the best hotel accommodation.

In fact you might be tempted to make it your master bedroom and offer you guests more modest accommodation with a shared bathroom! And speaking of shared bathrooms, parents of large families will appreciate the everyday advantage of having their own en suite bathroom, especially in the mornings when there’s a queue to use the facilities!

Alternatively, an en suite bedroom can serve as a sick room, a dressing room with extended wardrobe space, or even a granny flat! The possibilities are endless. Aside from bedrooms, some of most popular uses for converted lofts are home offices, playrooms, TV rooms and gyms (see previous blog).

If you’re looking for ideas on how you can best use your loft space, or want a practical guide on how to realise them, we’ll be pleased to offer suggestions or advise on costings without charge or obligation. As specialists we help you every step of the way with a complete design, planning and construction service.

  1. I was curious if you ever considered changing the layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
