Walthamstow rocks! Make the scene with your own loft music

loft music

Forget garage music, these days it’s loft music that makes the charts, with artists like Lethal Bizzle and his Fire Camp crew recording music in their own bedroom studios.  So if you want to be at the centre of London’s Grime music scene, Walthamstow is where it’s at and, with a little help from us, your loft will be the place to practice, perfect and record your repertoire.

If you’re as loud as Lethal Bizzle (and Alonza Bevan of Kula Shaker and David Cairns of Secret Affair – other famed Walthamstow residents), your loft conversion will need plenty of sound insulation.

All our loft conversions are well insulated – primarily to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer – but if your intended application is a music room or recording studio, we can up the specification to give added sound insulation.  After all, your fans may enjoy being blasted away but your neighbours may not!

If you’re lucky enough to be mates with Denis Blackham, the renowned music mastering engineer (and another Walthamstow resident), you should have no trouble getting your stuff professionally recorded.  If you’re not, then creating your own loft recording studio could be a lot more economical than hiring professional studio time and technicians.

At Herts & Essex Lofts we can’t help you with the studio hardware, but we know a man who can: Life Hacker reckon they can put together all the basic equipment you need for little more than the cost of a day’s hire of a professional studio.

Apart from the saving, the beauty of recording at home is the sheer freedom and flexibility it affords you: you can record and re-record whenever and for however long you like without being constrained by studio schedules or deadlines.  No more waiting on the muse: you’re ready whenever inspiration strikes – even in the middle of the night!

So what are you waiting for?  Have us convert your loft and join the pantheon of Walthamstow greats!  You know of course that East 17, the ’90s boy band, named themselves after the Walthamstow postcode. A host of other local musicians also went on to make their livings out of music: Phil Collen of Def Leppard, Mick Box of Uriah Heep, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Adam Devlin of the Bluetones, Johnny Dankworth and Jimmu Ray, to name but a few.

It’s something in the air around here – so grab a piece of the action!
